Baseline Games: The Two-Minute ChallengeUpdated 10 months ago

The Two-Minute Challenge is a new take on one of the world’s most popular drills, where two players team up and try to hit as many shots as they can in a minute.

Federer does 50-52 shots per minute, most pros get around 45, and the best under-18 juniors get 40.

In typical Baseline style, we've upped the intensity of this game by doubling the length and adding a new challenge:

Your score is based on both the number of shots you can hit AND the speed of each shot

This drill is a great way to practice balancing power and precision, and improve overall stamina.

Use it during training or to develop a consistent pre-match warm-up routine, pushing yourself to improve your score each time.

How to play The Two-Minute Challenge

The Two-Minute Challenge can be played by 2-4 players at a time on a single court.

The rules are simple:

  1. Players work together to hit as many shots as possible within the two-minute time limit.

  2. The faster the shot, the more points you’ll get. But if you make a mistake, you’ll earn no points – and have to waste precious seconds retrieving the ball.

Players or coaches can monitor progress using the Baseline app. However, the app is not required to run the drills as the camera will keep track of time and let players know how long they have left via the speakers.

Once the game is finished, both the camera and app will announce the winner. Scores will automatically be logged on the worldwide leaderboard so players can see where they stand and what score they need to beat to climb the rankings.

Here’s how to check the leaderboard.

How to maximize your score

💡Ultimately, this game is about control. Use the average speed stat to figure out how fast you can hit while still maintaining full control over your shots.

💡Hit deep and flat. Use the net clearance and ball placement stats in your post-drill summary to track your progress and see where you can improve.

💡Hit WITH your partner, not against them.

💡Focus on your footwork and keep the proper distance between you and the ball
